Remember this ...

Originally offered in Popular Mechanics magazine by Savoy Scientific in the 1960's, the designer of the Screaming Demon claimed that the engine could be built by the serious minded hobbyist or industrial arts class using a 9" metal cutting lathe with a milling attachment. A great many people answered this ad which still could be found in Popular Mechanics well into the late 1990's (ours was purchased by the IDEA Group's president in 1975!). Unfortunately for those who purchased them, all that was actually included in the plans package (at least in our President's) was a five page brochure containing a few poor quality photos, a fake news release, and four sheets of rudimentary drawings. Only a few of the engines 55 plus parts were detailed to any extent, and these poorly. Despite the brochures assurances that the drawings were accurate enough to scale from (to take any dimensions needed that were not specifically given) and that any additional information could be deduced from the photos, most customers found this far from being true. The Screaming Demon is, however, an interesting basic centrifugal compressor jet engine design. One that, with a little additional thought and improvement, could prove to be a successful and rewarding jet engine project.
